Police in Bengaluru report that a man allegedly strangled his four-month pregnant wife using a dog leash at their residence and then died by suicide. According to multiple outlets, the incident takes place at a rented house in Bengaluru, with reports placing it in areas including Banashankari Park and Channammanakere Achukattu. Police say the couple had been married for nearly three years and lived with the man’s parents and other family members in a joint household.
Authorities say a house owner alerted police after hearing loud arguments and screams. Police then found the wife’s body in the bedroom and the husband hanging inside the room after breaking into the house. One report identifies the wife as Swapna and the husband as Manoj, who worked as a carpenter. Police allege the man used a red nylon dog leash to strangle his wife during a quarrel reportedly occurring around noon, and then used the same leash to hang himself from a ceiling fan.
Investigations are ongoing, including examination of motives and the circumstances leading up to the deaths. Police say post-mortem procedures have been initiated and a case has been registered.
