The 64th New York Film Festival will open with James Gray’s crime drama “Paper Tiger,” starring Adam Driver, Miles Teller, and Scarlett Johansson. Multiple outlets report that the film is scheduled to have its North American premiere as the festival’s opening night feature on September 25 at Alice Tully Hall, under the banner of Film at Lincoln Center. The festival’s opening gala is set to include Gray and members of the cast and crew.
“Paper Tiger” previously premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where it received coverage for its strong critical reception. Sources also note that this is not Gray’s first appearance at the New York Film Festival; he has screened films there before, including “The Immigrant” (2013) and “Armageddon Time” (2022). With its Cannes debut now moving to New York for its U.S. rollout, the film is positioned as the festival’s lead event for the fall lineup.
