Major League Baseball releases its 2027 schedule, setting an earliest-ever Opening Day for March 24. Multiple outlets report that MLB expects the season to begin that date, with the opening slate including a series of single games involving many teams. MLB states the season will start with a game televised that night by Netflix, making the first day’s matchup part of a nationally distributed broadcast plan. The published matchups include, among others, Cleveland at the Chicago Cubs; St. Louis at Cincinnati; Texas at Houston; Minnesota at Kansas City; Atlanta at the Los Angeles Dodgers; and the New York Yankees at Toronto. Other reported games list the White Sox at Detroit, the Mets at Miami, the Angels at Milwaukee, and contests involving the Athletics, Pirates, and several National League matchups such as Arizona at San Diego and Colorado at San Francisco.
However, several sources also stress that the schedule remains conditional because the current MLB labor agreement expires December 1 and a management lockout is expected as negotiations continue. That raises the possibility that the planned Opening Day and dates could change or the season could be affected.
