Netflix says it will stop publishing its twice-yearly viewership and engagement data dumps and switch to releasing one annual report beginning in 2027. The change follows several years of “What We Watched” reporting that provided periodic snapshots of audience viewing and engagement for Netflix titles. In its earnings materials, the company states that it will provide engagement reporting once per year starting in Q1 2027, rather than every six months. Netflix frames the move as a shift in reporting approach, emphasizing “quality over quantity.” The decision comes amid broader scrutiny of how Netflix’s originals perform over time, including reporting that some series see declines in viewership in later seasons, particularly second seasons. The new annual format is expected to continue Netflix’s practice of sharing engagement information, but with less frequent public releases than the current biannual schedule. Netflix has not indicated that it is eliminating engagement reporting altogether, only that it will consolidate it into a yearly release schedule beginning in 2027.
