Pakistan all-rounder/spinner Mohammad Nawaz is sanctioned by the ICC for breaching the International Cricket Council Anti-Doping Code. The ICC says Nawaz tested positive for Carboxy-THC, a cannabis-related metabolite, after a doping test conducted following Pakistan’s Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo on 7 February. The ICC also states that Nawaz admitted to the offence and said the substance was used out of competition and in a manner unrelated to sport performance. The ICC imposed a three-month period of ineligibility, which is backdated to 1 May 2026, the date Nawaz started a voluntary provisional suspension. The ICC says Nawaz agreed to a substance abuse rehabilitation programme; on completion, the ban is reduced to one month. After accepting the sanction and committing to rehabilitation, the ICC lifted Nawaz’s provisional suspension once he had served about two and a half months. The ICC also disqualifies Nawaz’s match records from the Netherlands game and subsequent matches up to 1 May 2026, in line with its anti-doping rules.
