Manjot Kalra, a former India Under-19 World Cup centurion and co-owner of the Jaffna Kings, is arrested in Sri Lanka ahead of the 2026 Lanka Premier League. Multiple outlets report he is taken into custody by investigators over allegations that he attempted to bribe a player in connection with the LPL. Times of India and Wisden state Kalra is arrested hours before the season opener, while Free Press Journal says the arrest occurs the night before the tournament begins. According to Free Press Journal, investigators allege Kalra attempted to pay about Rs. 9.5 million (roughly ₹27 lakh) to influence a match outcome, and that a player reported the alleged approach about 10 days earlier, which led to an investigation. Times of India reports that several Jaffna Kings players notify the matter. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) says it will cooperate with the ongoing probe and highlights its anti-corruption processes, including its Anti-Corruption Unit and an independent integrity partner. SLC also indicates the LPL is set to start as scheduled.
