A cab driver is killed after a collision on the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram on Friday in which an iron rod protruding from an e-rickshaw pierces the cab’s windshield and strikes the driver, police said. According to officials, the e-rickshaw was carrying long iron rods, many of which extended beyond the vehicle without warning markers. The crash occurs at around 2 pm when a car travelling on the expressway collides with the e-rickshaw, leading to the front portion of the cab being crushed and the rod entering the driver’s chest. The cab driver dies at the spot. A woman travelling in the cab is reported to be seriously injured and is undergoing treatment in a hospital. Police say the e-rickshaw driver is detained. Investigators suspect overspeeding and the rear-end impact may have contributed, and they are examining CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events. Police teams from Sector-37 and traffic police reach the spot, extricate the body from the damaged vehicle, and send it for a post-mortem. The accident causes a traffic jam, and damaged vehicles are removed to restore traffic flow.
