The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Maharashtra State plans a protest in response to an assault on healthcare workers in Dombivli. The IMA is urging the Maharashtra government to take strict legal action against everyone involved and to ensure that the investigation is carried out without political interference. It is also calling for amendments to the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2010, to better prevent violence against healthcare workers.

According to the IMA, the protest on July 20 includes a statewide 24-hour withdrawal of routine healthcare services. Routine outpatient services, elective surgeries and non-emergency care are scheduled to be suspended from 6 am on July 20 to 6 am on July 21, while emergency services and life-saving treatments are to continue. The IMA says the protest is directed at securing justice for the victims and ensuring a safe working environment for healthcare professionals rather than against patients.

The IMA also seeks stronger security measures in hospitals, including access control, CCTV surveillance, trained security personnel, and improved coordination with police. It warns that if demands are not met, it will escalate its agitation from August 9 under a broader banner.
