Apple increases the prices of multiple iPhone models on its online store in Japan, with the increases reaching up to 11%. According to reporting based on Apple’s Japanese pricing pages, the affected models include the iPhone 16, iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Price changes range from about 8% to 11.3%, with examples including the iPhone 17 Pro Max rising from ¥194,800 to ¥214,800 (10.3%), and the iPhone Air moving from ¥159,800 to ¥177,800 (11.3%).
One earlier round of Apple price increases covered Macs and iPads globally and was attributed by Apple to ongoing memory chip shortages that have pushed component prices higher. For the iPhone changes in Japan, the reporting notes Apple has not framed a specific reason for the yen-related adjustment, but suggests currency effects may be a factor given the yen’s depreciation versus the U.S. dollar over the past year. The reports also state Apple did not raise iPhone prices at the time in the U.S. or other countries that were checked, and that other Apple subscriptions and services plans also increased in some markets on the same day.
