TikTok is testing an opt-in tool designed to detect whether AI-generated likenesses of creators are being used without authorization and to let creators report those instances to the company. The initiative is described as being in early testing with “some” creators in the United States, according to a TikTok U.S. spokesperson cited by The Verge. Social media consultant Matt Navarra first spotted the feature.
The tool’s role is to identify potential AI likeness matches and provide a mechanism for creators to submit reports to TikTok. The testing is positioned as a response to the growth of deepfakes and synthetic media that can impersonate real people online.
The development follows similar work by other major platforms. Digital Trends notes that YouTube has been developing comparable tools for detecting and addressing unauthorized AI likenesses, and TikTok’s test is presented as a parallel effort. Both outlets report that TikTok is still rolling the feature out in limited scope at this stage, with details beyond the opt-in testing and initial U.S. participation not fully specified.
