The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspends the licence of a canteen operating at Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital and orders it to halt operations. Officials say the action follows an inspection conducted by the FDA’s Zone 3 team on July 15 at the canteen run by M/s Stany Caterers, located on the ground floor of the Old Nurses Home building in KEM Hospital, Parel. The FDA says the inspection found unhygienic conditions and violations of food safety requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) and related regulations.

Officials report that a stop-business notice is issued by a Food Safety Officer and that the food business licence is suspended with immediate effect by the designated officer. During the inspection, FDA staff collect four food samples for laboratory analysis, including prepared rice, mixed pulses bhaji, kabuli chana (as a raw material), and refined sunflower oil.

Both outlets describe the FDA’s decision as a direct response to hygiene and food safety concerns identified during the inspection at the hospital canteen, with operations halted immediately.
