Actress Janhvi Kapoor has reportedly signed an untitled new film with director Umesh Bist, marking their first collaboration. The announcement follows a controversy around her Telugu film “Peddi,” in which some sections of the audience accused the makers of objectifying her character, Achiyamma. Both outlets say Kapoor has not publicly commented on the backlash and is now moving ahead with the next project. According to reports, the new film is backed by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment. Production is expected to begin around October–November, though details about the plot, genre, and cast have not been released. The reporting also notes that Umesh Bist is simultaneously associated with “Pagglait 2,” the sequel to the 2021 Netflix film. Sanya Malhotra is expected to reprise the lead role as Sandhya, and the sequel is described as continuing the story forward. An official confirmation of the new film’s title, cast, and release timeline is yet to be made by the makers.
