Axis Bank appoints Rajeev Mantri, a former Chief Financial Officer at Bandhan Bank, as its new Chief Financial Officer. The appointment is effective September 28 and fills the vacancy created after Axis Bank’s then-CFO Puneet Sharma resigned last month. The bank’s board approves Mantri’s appointment at a meeting held on Saturday, following recommendations from its Nomination and Remuneration Committee and Audit Committee, as stated in a regulatory filing.
Mantri joins Axis Bank after stepping down as Executive President and CFO of Bandhan Bank in June. Under Bandhan Bank’s notice period policy, his last working day is September 25, allowing him to assume the Axis Bank role three days later. Sources describe him as a finance executive with nearly three decades of experience, including senior roles at Bandhan Bank, Citibank, Standard Chartered and Mashreq across India and overseas.
Axis Bank also indicates that Mantri meets the eligibility criteria for appointment as CFO under the Reserve Bank of India’s Commercial Banks—Governance Directions, 2025. The change comes amid broader leadership reshuffles and succession planning across India’s banking sector.
