APEDA facilitates the first export shipment of Jammu & Kashmir’s Areko cherries and Scentrose plums to Singapore, according to an official statement. The shipment originates from Shopian and Pulwama and is part of an initiative to support export-oriented fruit production and improve growers’ returns. The ministry says the project is expected to help farmers realize more than 50% higher returns compared with conventional marketing channels, while also reducing post-harvest losses through better value realization and livelihood opportunities for fruit-growing communities.

APEDA organized a “flag-off” ceremony in collaboration with Osum Food Solutions LLP and Fruit Master Agro Fresh Private Limited. The consignment is described as being scientifically harvested, graded and packed, then transported using a cold chain to meet international food safety and phytosanitary standards, aiming to preserve freshness and quality on arrival in Singapore.

The milestone follows prior exports of fresh cherries and plums from the region to destinations in the United Arab Emirates, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The ministry frames the shipment as part of efforts to diversify markets and strengthen India’s horticultural exports through improved logistics and export facilitation.
