The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has constituted an independent fact-finding and verification committee to investigate alleged irregularities at four B.Ed colleges in Madhya Pradesh. The probe focuses on claims that some colleges are not operating from their declared locations and that infrastructure and other facilities are inadequate. NCTE’s order, dated July 15, directs the five-member committee, led by former Central University of South Bihar vice-chancellor H.C.S. Rathore, to submit a comprehensive report within five working days. The committee is tasked with conducting on-site physical verification using geotagged videography and photographic documentation, and by comparing findings with documents submitted by the institutions, including recognition records and Performance Appraisal Reports (PARs). The investigation reportedly began after media reports raised concerns about irregularities in three B.Ed colleges affiliated with Barkatullah University. NCTE officials say preliminary verification found a fourth B.Ed college was functioning from the same premises, leading to the panel’s mandate being expanded to include all four institutions. The committee is also expected to assess compliance with the NCTE Act, 1993; NCTE regulations; and norms covering infrastructure, instructional facilities, laboratories, land availability, faculty strength, and other recognition conditions.
