Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says Pune district has recorded the highest number of complaints about unhygienic food in the state following the launch of a new complaint-reporting portal. FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, speaking in Pune, says the portal “complaints.mahafda.in” goes live and quickly attracts public responses, with thousands of complaints coming in and about 10 lakh portal hits recorded within 24 hours. Multiple outlets report that the complaints are concentrated in Pune district, with most submissions concerning unhygienic food. According to the FDA, the complaint system is intended to improve accountability and transparency. A joint commissioner is expected to take cognisance of a registered complaint within 24 hours, and to assign it to an officer for follow-up. If the required action is not taken within the stipulated time, the complaint is set to be escalated to a senior official in the department. The FDA also links the portal rollout to ongoing enforcement, including intensified inspections and actions related to food safety and hygiene.
