The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad has summoned Noreen Niazi, the sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, to appear before it on Monday, July 20. According to an NCCIA notice dated July 18, she is accused of disseminating “false, offensive and inflammatory” social media content aimed at defaming state institutions and spreading what the agency describes as fake narratives. The notice directs her to attend at the NCCIA office in G-13/3, and states that if she does not comply it will be presumed she has nothing to present in her defence. It also notes that non-compliance is punishable under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The notice does not specify the exact posts or remarks under inquiry, but it comes after a widely shared video clip of Niazi making claims about last year’s Pakistan-India brief military conflict. In the clip, she alleges the conflict was “orchestrated” to improve Pakistan’s military image, questions collaboration with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and links the alleged objectives to issues including Israel-Pakistan recognition and statements associated with US President Donald Trump’s remarks. The NCCIA inquiry is ongoing.
