The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) says it has arranged for a female support staff member to accompany para cyclist Lisha Das at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after the 16-year-old athlete raised concerns. Das is described as India’s youngest athlete in the contingent and the lone para-track cyclist to qualify for the Games, which begin in Glasgow on Thursday. According to reports, Das had pointed out that no female support staff member was initially assigned to accompany her, and she also raised the absence of her personal coach at the outset. The issue is said to have been highlighted earlier by PTI on Monday. IOA Chef de Mission Rohit Rajpal, who is also an executive committee member, is quoted as saying the IOA responds as soon as it is made aware of such concerns and that arrangements were made for the female physiotherapist Das had requested. Rajpal also emphasizes that the safety, well-being, and dignity of athletes are treated as non-negotiable, and that the IOA remains committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for athletes traveling for the Games.
