Malaysia is aiming to increase annual arrivals from South Korea to above pre-pandemic levels, as part of its Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign to attract 47 million international visitors. Tourism Malaysia Seoul director Kamilia Hani Abdul Halim says South Korea is a priority market. According to the reports, about 558,000 South Koreans visited Malaysia last year, making South Korea one of the country’s larger source markets. Malaysia wants to raise that figure to 600,000 this year, noting that arrivals from South Korea have not yet fully returned to pre-COVID-19 levels. The campaign is designed to encourage travel through “authentic local experiences,” moving beyond Malaysia’s established image of beach resorts and major city attractions. The wider initiative faces uncertainty in the global travel sector, but Malaysia maintains the goal of drawing in 47 million international visitors. The campaign theme, “Surreal Experiences,” is intended to promote distinctive experiences across Malaysia and support the effort to bring Korean tourist numbers back toward the level recorded before the pandemic, when Malaysia welcomed more than 600,000 South Korean visitors.
