Gunmen kidnap a family traveling on the Otukpo–Ogobia Road in Benue State after their vehicle breaks down while returning from Abuja toward Oklenyi in Okpokwu Local Government Area for the burial of their late mother. According to multiple reports, armed men ambush the stranded group and take several members captive.

The reports say the kidnappers later release some of the abducted people. They free the driver, return the corpse of an elderly woman who is the family’s mother, and release one of her three children. The body of the deceased woman is taken to Okpoga for funeral rites.

However, two siblings remain in captivity. The kidnappers demand ₦30 million for the release of the two remaining children. Family members and relatives are reported to be working to raise the ransom and calling on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts. As of the time of reporting, the Benue State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the incident.
