Apple is reportedly piloting an AI system called “Live Notes” for Genius Bar appointments at some retail stores. Citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, multiple outlets say the tool records customer conversations with Genius Bar employees, transcribes the dialogue, and generates a text summary. The transcript and summary are then added to the employee’s iPad as part of the documented repair session.

The reported purpose is to reduce the time employees spend taking notes during customer interactions, allowing them to focus on the customer while still creating a record that can be used by the technician handling the repair. Gurman’s report also says the AI is not being used for appointment prioritization, warranty determinations, or deciding which repairs should be performed.

At the same time, some employees express concern about how such monitoring tools could be used in the future. Reportedly, Apple has told staff that recordings will not be saved, managers will not receive transcripts, and employees can edit both the transcript and summary before anything is stored. Sources also report that participation is opt-in and requires agreement from both the customer and the employee, though it is unclear whether policies could change as the pilot develops.
