Intelligence reports say an ISWAP senior commander, identified as Abu Hassan, is killed during fighting in Borno State. Multiple outlets report that the clash occurs around Cross Kauwa and is linked to an attack that security analysts describe as having failed. One report, citing intelligence sources and a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, says Abu Hassan operates as a qaid from the Tumbunma axis and leads the assault before being neutralised in the confrontation.
The reports also describe casualties among other ISWAP personnel. Another commander, Aliyi Zabarmari, who leads fighters from the Tumbunma enclave, is said to be wounded, with one account specifying a gunshot injury that fractures his thigh. In addition, sources say a foreign fighter of Arab origin dies in the attack, while another foreign fighter remains missing.
Security analysts assess that the deaths and injuries of these commanders represent a setback for ISWAP, citing their roles in coordinating operations across the Lake Chad region. The reports do not provide further details on the scale of the engagement or the immediate response by security forces.
