The Nigerian Navy says it maintains operational control over illegal refining hotspots in Rivers State by uncovering and deactivating sites tied to illicit refining activities. According to an operational report by the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, Navy personnel aboard Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER discovered and deactivated illegal refining installations within the Egbema axis of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area on July 10. The Navy also reports that its activities fall under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, which it describes as focused on preventing known illegal refining infrastructure from being reactivated after it has been dismantled. The report states that the Navy’s continued presence and actions are intended to frustrate efforts to restart operations at hotspots previously addressed by the service. Both outlets frame the development as part of ongoing patrol and enforcement efforts in Rivers, with the Navy emphasizing repeated monitoring and intervention at illegal refining locations.
