Authorities say the MV Barima capsizes off the coast of Guyana results in 67 people being rescued, with the total number of persons believed to have been onboard reported as 133. Prime Minister Mark Phillips states that the rescue figure remains at 67 and that some survivors are not listed on the vessel’s official manifest. The minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, also says 35 of the 67 rescued are recorded on the MV Barima’s manifest. Edghill adds that authorities consider it uncertain whether the manifest fully reflects the actual number of people onboard at the time of the capsizing. Officials report the vessel departed Georgetown at about 3:15 p.m. on the day of the incident and that the capsizing occurs roughly seven miles offshore. The discrepancy between the 67 rescued and the reported onboard figure of 133 is attributed by officials to missing or incomplete listing of passengers and crew on the manifest.
