A former Nigerian Army Public Relations director, Sani Usman, urges the government to use technology to tackle terrorism and banditry. Usman argues that the leadership of banditry groups and key figures behind terrorist activities have histories that show violent extremism and related criminal behavior. He says these patterns persisted partly because systems were unable to effectively stop them earlier.
The former spokesman adds that technology strengthens the ability of security services to detect and track suspects, reducing the opportunity for offenders to evade justice. He says digital monitoring and improved surveillance can help authorities eventually catch individuals, even when they attempt to hide.
