Samsung Display is rolling out new tandem OLED panels for laptops that are designed to be significantly brighter and last longer than conventional single-layer OLED displays. Multiple outlets report the panels can reach about 1,600 nits peak brightness, which is substantially higher than typical single-layer OLED limits cited around 1,100 nits. The company also says the tandem design improves longevity, with claims that the new panels can last roughly twice as long as the panels they replace.
The updates are tied to a newer display standard from VESA. Samsung’s panels are reported to meet VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 requirements, which demand very high brightness while preserving black performance. Under the certification, black pixels must remain at or below 0.0005 nits, and white areas are required to reach 1,400 nits at a 10% on-pixel ratio.
According to the sources, Samsung Display is already supplying these tandem OLED panels to laptop manufacturers, with one report specifically noting they are being used in a Lenovo laptop.
