Rescue 1122 reports that a vehicle carrying Afghan families returning to Afghanistan is swept away in a flash flood in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district on Monday. The incident occurs in Landi Kotal tehsil, near Sultan Khel Market, after rains. Rescue teams launch a search operation and recover three bodies so far from the vehicle’s passengers. Rescue divers find the bodies of a woman and a man in Jamrud town, while a child’s body is recovered from the Parang Sang area. Rescue personnel later also find the body of another man identified as a Jamrud resident, while the search for any remaining passengers continues.
Separately, Rescue 1122 says the roof of a room collapses in Kalu Dheri village in Mardan, killing two children. The children’s mother and a 14-year-old sister are injured and are taken to Mardan Medical Complex Hospital.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had forecast widespread rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other regions between July 19 and July 23. In response, Rescue 1122 holds an emergency online meeting, orders district emergency officers to stay on high alert, deploys boats and water-rescue equipment, and advises residents to avoid rivers and rain-fed waterways and to use the 1122 helpline. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Neelum district, heavy rains on Sunday wipe out two houses and damage additional houses, shops, bridges, and other infrastructure.
