A Hong Kong District Court on Monday sentenced 23-year-old waiter Chan Ho-hin to 28 months in prison for inciting subversion. Chan, who earlier pleaded guilty, is accused of publishing online messages and posting public materials that promote pro-Taiwan political views and anti-Communist Party content. According to reports, the case involves 118 subversive messages shared on his social media accounts between an unspecified start date and the time of prosecution, as well as posters put up in public places.
District Court Judge Stanley Chan Kwong-chi said the seriousness of the offences warranted a custodial term. The judge also noted that Chan has an intellectual disability, and that his condition may have affected his moral judgment.
