The Nigerian Federal Government denies viral social media claims that Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attacked the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State. In statements issued on Monday, the Federal Ministry of Education says the reports are false and misleading, and that the school remains safe and fully secured. Officials state that verification efforts—including direct communication with school authorities—confirm that students, staff, and boarding facilities are safe and fully accounted for. The ministry also says academic and boarding activities continue without disruption under existing security arrangements.
The denial follows earlier allegations that a pre-dawn attack occurred, with claims of killings and attempted abductions, and suggestions that security forces, including Operation HADIN KAI and the Nigeria Police Mobile Force, prevented an abduction. The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, says none of FGGC Monguno’s students were involved in any incident referenced by the rumours. He clarifies that people affected were remedial students outside the college and adds that Borno State authorities are taking steps to protect their welfare. The ministry urges the public to rely on credible sources before sharing information.
