NHAI says residents living within 20 km of an eligible toll plaza can now buy local passes digitally. The agency introduces the “local pass” feature through its Rajmargyatra Mobile App, allowing eligible commuters to purchase the pass without physically visiting the toll plaza. Under the previous process, commuters had to visit the toll plaza and submit supporting documents to prove eligibility.

NHAI says the new digital workflow can be completed within minutes. The local pass covers unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza during the validity month, subject to eligibility criteria set by the authority. NHAI also states that the initiative is consent-based and is designed to make the pass purchase process more streamlined.

The first digital local pass facility is being launched at the Mundka Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi. NHAI adds that similar digital local pass services will be rolled out to other toll plazas across India in the coming months.
