The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says media reports implying that Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap is being investigated for visa fraud are false. In a statement issued through its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC clarifies that it has no case involving Nandap and that she is not connected to ongoing visa-fraud matters involving some NIS officers.
At the same time, the EFCC confirms that it is prosecuting immigration officers over alleged visa-related fraudulent practices and that investigations are continuing. The reports cited by outlets indicate there are existing cases before the Federal High Court involving allegations of visa racketeering by some immigration officials. The EFCC also states that further action may follow, including the possibility that additional NIS officers could be arraigned if investigations lead to more charges.
The EFCC urges media organisations to verify information and seek clarification before publishing claims about its investigations.
