Australia is set to provide the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) with a P413-million, four-year assistance package to enhance the agency’s maritime surveillance and “maritime domain awareness” capabilities, the Australian Embassy in Manila announced. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong made the announcement during a visit to Manila. Under the program, Australia will supply underwater drones and counter-drone (anti-drone) systems. The package also includes long-range and heavy-lift drones. In addition to equipment, the assistance includes specialist operator training for PCG personnel, intended to help operators use the systems effectively. The embassy said the support is designed to strengthen the PCG’s ability to monitor and respond to maritime activities, particularly through improved detection and awareness at sea. The information released by both outlets describes the same funding level and scope of support, linking the aid to PCG maritime surveillance and domain awareness objectives.
