Microsoft and French AI startup Mistral announce a multibillion-dollar agreement to expand their partnership focused on Europe. The companies say Microsoft will fund a major part of Mistral’s European build-out, described as support for compute infrastructure across the continent. The expanded deal extends an existing relationship that already connects Mistral’s Paris operations with Microsoft’s cloud services.
Under the arrangement, Microsoft is set to incorporate Mistral’s AI models into its platforms, making them available to customers through Microsoft tools and offerings. Sources report availability through Microsoft Foundry and Copilot Studio, as well as via Azure Local and Microsoft Azure-linked services. One outlet also notes that Mistral models can be offered directly to Microsoft clients through Microsoft’s AI assistant Copilot.
The partners also frame the agreement as enabling organizations in Europe and other regulated markets to access frontier AI while keeping control over data, operations, and critical workloads. The sources generally agree on the partnership’s scale, the European infrastructure focus, and the integration of Mistral models into Microsoft’s cloud and AI developer ecosystem.
