The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) is carrying out removals of unauthorised billboards and signs across parts of the Corporate Area in Kingston and St Andrew. According to KSAMC officials, the enforcement action includes the dismantling of signage placed in public areas without approval. One specific case involves a billboard installed near the entrance to the Jamaica Society for the Blind on Hope Road. KSAMC says the structure was unlawful and created a safety risk for visually impaired pedestrians. The corporation’s CEO, Robert Hill, says KSAMC previously contacted the advertiser and asked for the sign to be removed, but the request was not complied with.
KSAMC also reports removing several unauthorised signs at Clock Tower Plaza in Half-Way Tree. It says business owners received repeated warnings, including written notices outlining required fees and the steps needed to bring signage into compliance. The corporation says many proprietors did not respond, prompting the removals. KSAMC describes the crackdown as intended to restore order, improve public safety, and hold non-compliant parties accountable for signage placed in the public right-of-way without authorization.
