The cost for owners to reclaim scramblers seized by Gardaí is set to double from August 14 under new regulations. RTE News reports that the fee required to have a seized scrambler returned is being doubled. Highland Radio adds that the changes set a new baseline charge for most scramblers, covering detention, removal and the first day of storage. Under the new schedule, owners will pay €250, up from the current €125. Highland Radio also states that additional daily storage charges will apply after the first day: a further €70 per day for any further storage period. The regulations therefore increase both the up-front cost to retrieve a detained scrambler and the ongoing cost if the vehicle remains in storage longer than one day. The reports focus on the updated reclaiming fees that begin in mid-August, following the seizure and detention process carried out by Gardaí.
