A Federal High Court in Gusau has adjourned a suit filed by APC senatorial aspirant Abdullahi Shinkafi challenging the outcome of the party’s Zamfara North Senatorial District primary. Presiding Justice Hassan Dikko set July 28 for the adoption of final written addresses after hearing affidavits, counter-affidavits and preliminary objections. Shinkafi’s case questions the APC primary held on May 19, in which incumbent Senator Sahabi Ya’u was declared the APC candidate for the 2027 general elections. The plaintiff alleges irregularities and says the process violated the Electoral Act 2022, INEC guidelines and APC’s internal procedures. During proceedings, Shinkafi’s counsel, Bello Galadi, told the court that the results were allegedly pre-written by officials. The court also granted extensions for filing replies and other processes, including responses to a preliminary objection involving INEC and another defendant. A separate application seeking leave to appeal and a stay of execution was argued and adjourned. Counsel for the third defendant, J.C. Shaka, asked for N2 million in costs over late service of a counter-affidavit, but the judge declined after confirming it was filed within the required timeframe. The matter is heard virtually.
