Former All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman and ex-Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje says a proposed Peter Obi–Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso presidential ticket under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is unlikely to win Kano in the 2027 general election. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Ganduje dismisses the alliance as “dead on arrival,” arguing that it does not have the political strength or leadership record needed to gain support in Kano, an important electoral battleground.
Ganduje questions Obi’s performance and governance legacy, referring to Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State and asking what he achieved there and what lasting impact he left. He also contends that Obi has not demonstrated enough experience to lead at the national level.
On Kwankwaso, Ganduje points to his own and other leaders’ electoral track records, saying Kwankwaso did not secure two consecutive terms as governor. He argues this limits the case for his suitability and reduces the ticket’s prospects in Kano. The reports all present Ganduje’s remarks as strong criticism of the potential Obi–Kwankwaso pairing and its viability ahead of 2027.
