A Hong Kong court sentences 26-year-old British woman Isabel Rose, of London, to six years in prison over findings that she blackmailed a compatriot linked to an earlier rape allegation. Multiple outlets report that Rose arrived in Hong Kong in early 2024 to visit a British man she had met while travelling in South-East Asia. After she reported that the man raped her, the case later shifts to her alleged misuse of the complaint. The South China Morning Post and Hong Kong Free Press state the court convicts her of blackmail involving about £100,000, which she is said to have demanded in connection with the rape allegations. The Guardian and other reports also note that the court finds her guilty of perverting the course of public justice. The sentence is imposed by District Court judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching, who is reported to have found that Rose’s conduct met the offences of blackmail and perverting justice. Rose is sent to Tai Lam Correctional Institution following sentencing.
