Multiple outlets report that code discovered in an iOS 27 beta would let Apple restrict access on certain iPhones tied to financing. According to reporting cited by The Verge and Digital Trends, the code can place a device into a system described as “Restricted Mode” when it detects missed payments. Times of India adds detail from the same iOS 27 code, saying the mode limits the phone to a small set of apps—reported as nine—while leaving other functionality locked until payments are brought current. Times of India also describes a companion mechanism referred to as a “Partner Finance Lock,” which is said to prevent actions such as erasing or reselling the device. The reports link the discovery to broader coverage that Apple is preparing to launch a new financing or leasing program sometimes described as “Apple Upgrade,” with one account tying it to Klarna. Times of India states that this program is expected to open on July 28. Apple has not been quoted in these reports, and the findings are based on code present in a beta version of iOS, according to the outlets.
