Apple’s Apple Store app is preparing for a feature that would add an AI-powered “virtual shopping assistant,” according to updates to the app’s privacy policy reported by multiple outlets. The policy describes a chat-style interface where users can ask questions about Apple products and receive guidance intended to help them decide what to purchase. Apple says it collects and uses data to personalize responses, including account information, device identifiers, chat details, carrier information, and location data when enabled. The policy also states that chat transcripts are saved and may be reused later when users return to the Apple Store app and for analytics. Apple indicates that, before sending chat content to outside “partners,” it removes personal identifiers. Those partners are described as using the provided information only to support Apple in generating a conversational response, suggesting possible use of third-party AI technology. The assistant is not reported as fully live yet in the Apple Store app, and outlets note it could be in limited testing. Separately, Apple already offers an assistant-style experience in its Apple Support app, though availability can vary by user or region.
