Mirae Asset Financial Group’s affiliate, Mirae Asset Consulting, completes its acquisition of South Korea’s cryptocurrency exchange Korbit and moves the group toward near-total ownership. According to Korean outlet reporting, Mirae Asset Consulting buys a 91.73% stake, completing required regulatory filing procedures completed on July 9, and is set to purchase an additional 5.42% shareholding later this week. That follow-on purchase is expected to raise Mirae Asset’s ownership to 97.15%.
The Fair Trade Commission determines the deal is unlikely to significantly restrict competition, citing Korbit’s small share of Korea’s cryptocurrency trading market, at around 0.5% in 2025. The completed acquisition also represents a first for a domestic financial group’s affiliate in taking a controlling position in a Korean crypto exchange. One outlet notes Korbit’s trading and customer asset protections remain unchanged, and another describes the transaction as Korbit joining the Mirae Asset group after the controlling stake is completed.
