Tropical Storm Kiyapo (international name: Noul) strengthens after making landfall near the Camiguin Islands, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). In a Thursday forecast, PAGASA says Kiyapo—then a tropical depression—was expected to make possible landfall in the Babuyan Islands between Friday afternoon or evening. At 4 p.m. Thursday, the storm was last located about 640 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, with maximum winds of 45 kph and gusts up to 55 kph, moving northwestward at 25 kph.
By Friday afternoon, PAGASA reports that Kiyapo made landfall at around 2:15 p.m. near the Camiguin Islands in Cagayan. In a 5 p.m. bulletin, the storm is last located over the coastal waters of the Calayan Islands, Calayan, Cagayan. PAGASA also notes that Kiyapo gains strength post-landfall, carrying maximum winds of 85 kph and gusts up to 115 kph.
