An autopsy on Prateek Yadav reports that his death is linked to pulmonary thromboembolism, in which a blood clot blocks blood vessels in the lungs, leading to collapse of the heart and respiratory system. Multiple outlets say the postmortem also records six ante mortem injury marks, with injuries described across the chest area and parts of the upper limbs, including the under-right arm region, right forearm, right elbow joint and over the elbow, and the left wrist.
Times of India and News18 India report that forensic and chemical analyses are planned or underway to determine the clot’s origin and to assess whether any factors contributed to the condition. Times of India also says medical teams preserve the heart, lungs/clot, and viscera for further examination, while noting that the nature of the six injuries is not yet conclusively established. NDTV similarly describes the injury locations mentioned in the autopsy report.
The findings therefore point to a clot in the lungs as the direct cause of death, alongside additional injuries whose circumstances remain under investigation.
