Instagram is starting to remove content shot with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses when it involves harassing or exploiting people, according to multiple reports. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri says the platform will take down videos that “take advantage of people and harass them,” including pickup- or prank-style content filmed from a first-person perspective without the subject’s knowledge.
The crackdown targets “creepy POV” clips filmed in public using the glasses and then posted online, a practice that has drawn criticism for consent and privacy concerns. Coverage describes scenarios where creators approach strangers—sometimes including service workers or women in public—while secretly recording, then share the resulting footage as prank or pickup content.
Several outlets report that Instagram’s enforcement already includes removal of accounts that repeatedly posted such videos. In addition to content moderation, Meta is updating the smart glasses’ behavior to address a privacy loophole related to the recording indicator light. Reports say the camera can be automatically disabled if the glasses detect that the indicator light is blocked or tampered with.
