Troops from Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD carry out an ambush operation in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State that results in the death of four suspected kidnappers and the rescue of one abducted victim. Multiple reports cite the account of Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analyst covering the Lake Chad region. The operation takes place at about 4:00 a.m. on 22 July, when troops from Sector 1 deployed from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaiama act on what is described as credible intelligence. Soldiers lay an ambush at a known crossing point along the Jonloji Village riverine axis, where the suspects are expected to pass. During a gun battle with the armed suspects, four suspected kidnappers are killed. The troops also rescue one kidnapping victim during the operation. In addition, security operatives recover a pump-action shotgun, four motorcycles, and ₦64,000, which are reported to be linked to the suspected criminal gang. The rescued victim is evacuated to Kaiama General Hospital for treatment. The reports describe the action as part of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping and other criminal networks in Kwara and neighbouring areas.
