New Delhi: The Centre and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) hold further talks over the NEET paper leak protests, with negotiations continuing despite a deadlock over one central demand. The CJP says it reiterates its position that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must resign, calling this requirement “non-negotiable.” In the third round of discussions with Union ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh, CJP leaders state they told government representatives that the agitation will continue until Pradhan’s resignation is accepted.
Government sources cited by one outlet indicate that Pradhan’s resignation is not under consideration, suggesting any outcome from the talks will focus on other protest demands. These include a public apology to students allegedly assaulted during a July 20 march to Parliament, Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of aspirants who died by suicide after the May 3 NEET examination was cancelled, and withdrawal of FIRs filed against protesters. CJP leaders say the government responded positively to parts of these demands relating to compensation and withdrawal of cases. Nadda says ministers will consult internally and respond after further discussions, with another round of talks scheduled for Saturday.
