Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori presents Great Chinedu Okediachi, a student of Madonna International School, Asaba, with ₦20 million after Okediachi wins the 2026 World Spelling Bee Championship (Middle School Category). The competition is held in Shanghai, China, and the state’s government house in Asaba hosts a reception where the governor receives the trophy and acknowledges the achievement.
At the event, Oborevwori praises the win as evidence of Delta’s increasing presence in international academic competitions, linking the success to the state’s investment in education. He also pledges further support for Madonna International School and notes that Delta students previously participated in Nigeria’s winning team at the World Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar, describing Okediachi’s spelling bee victory as another marker of academic performance.
The Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu, characterizes the win as significant for Delta, Nigeria, and Africa, and says the trophy returning to the continent is a source of pride. Okediachi thanks the governor and commits to continued excellence, with his win also tied to a full university scholarship awarded by Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN), Asagba of Asaba.
