In separate reports, The Punch (Nigeria) states that the union’s national leadership rejects the suspension imposed by the Osun State government and argues that the governor does not have the legal authority to ban the union’s activities. The union also goes ahead with setting up the caretaker committee intended to manage affairs in the state chapter.
At the same time, Osun State officials insist the caretaker committee does not resolve the suspension and maintain their position that NURTW activities in the state remain halted. The dispute is framed around differing interpretations of authority and legality—between the NURTW’s national leadership, which continues to operate through the caretaker structure, and the state government, which rejects the committee and holds that the union should not resume operations.
The conflicting positions leave the status of NURTW activities in Osun contested, with both sides continuing to issue public statements.
