Former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu dismisses reports that he plans to defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied People’s Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 elections. In a statement released in Ibadan on Friday, Adelabu said the speculation is “false and baseless,” adding that he has no intention of abandoning the APC. The statement was signed by his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro.
According to the reports circulating earlier in the day, Adelabu’s personal assistant, Ajiboye Akande, allegedly met with APM members as part of a plan to facilitate Adelabu’s potential move to the opposition party. Adelabu denied both his own involvement and that of Akande, urging the public to disregard the claims and saying the rumour is meant to create confusion.
Adelabu also reiterated his respect for President Bola Tinubu, whom he describes as his political mentor, and reaffirmed his belief in the APC’s leadership and internal democratic process. He maintains that he will remain an active and committed member of the APC.
