Paramount Skydance agrees to delay its merger with Warner Bros., extending the timeline for the companies’ combination. All reports say the postponement runs until as late as June 2027, moving the deal’s potential completion well beyond earlier deadlines.
The delay is connected to regulatory and legal uncertainty, including a federal lawsuit filed by a group of Democratic state attorneys general challenging the merger. NBC News adds that the agreement includes a contingency: the deal could proceed if a federal judge issues a ruling on the suit before the later deadline. The parties also face financial terms tied to timing. NBC News reports that a penalty applies for each day the transaction does not close after a Sept. 30 deadline, which could cost Paramount millions of dollars.
Los Angeles Times notes the concessions come amid expectations that Paramount Skydance could face a longer moratorium, and says the latest delay could extend to next summer. CBS News similarly reports that the company formally said it will push the merger date to as late as June 2027.
